Author's note: I made this, to give those who are interested a slight impression of what
happened to Skuld during her time in the laboratory.
For the ones who still don't know her, Skuld is a  personified Cosmic
Monolith and one of my favourite OCs.
To give you more insight into her still developing personality,
I wrote it from her perspective, like some kind of diary.

I never tried to write anything serious in English before, so please have mercy...

Something was bugging me. I still didn't understand the reactions of those humans when they shocked me the previous day. So I thought it was the right time to seek Alessandro's advice. I told him everything that happened, and he listened quietly, only asking a few question once in a while. When I finished, he sighed. Then he hugged me unexpectedly. I was surprised, but it was pleasant. Hesitantly, I returned the affection.

He explained to me that humans were, in comparison to many other species, still primitive, driven by instincts and urges. Anything alien and inhuman was perceived as a potential threat, and just the thought of an intelligent weapon of mass destruction must "scare them shitless", as he called it. A funny phrase, I will remember it. Anyway, he also said that now that I proved to be sentient, I should be much scarier than before due to being less predictable. And I don't have the moral standards or empathy of an organic being. Me looking so close to human now - which is their own doing - and at the same time, me being so obviously not human, is "uncanny" to them.
Ironic, but it gets better. Humans also tend to ascribe human traits to non-human things, and thus, apply human standards to them. It makes little sense to me. They see what is not there, and punishing me like they would do to an uncooperative human...well, worse, since I'm not human and can take more, and human rights on't apply to me. They act like my thought processes, agenda and reactions are similar to theirs. But at the same time, they hate it if I don't act human enough. Which one is it? Alessandro called it "cognitive dissonance". A term I will commit to memory. He smiled and agreed that, yes, humans indeed are deeply flawed in their logic.

Alessandro said they are arrogant. Scientists and military personnel who are used to getting their way and being in control, they will feel personally slighted if something doesn't go as they wanted. They are used to being catered to, and others bending over backwards to make things happen. Even if the reason why something is not working is inanimate or their own doing, someone will take the blame and fall for them. It's always someone or something else. Never them. They like to play god. Since they could wield power over me with the help of their remote controls and the limiters I was wearing, they decided to "teach me a lesson". Which lesson exactly? I won't just stop being what I am...or who I am. Well, they're setting themselves up for disappointment.
There is one thing that got me thinking. Alessandro agreed with me that, from a logical perspective, neither science, frustration, fear or any vague claim of a "greater good" justifies hurting another person, take their freedom and deprive them of the right of being treated as a person. He truly thinks I'm a person and acts on it. He didn't suggest to me that I should try to act more human in order to avoid the problem...I wouldn't want to either. But he advised that they will always see what they wish to see, and if I gave them that in little doses, just enough and in the right situations, just to express myself, it could be a useful asset. Be more emotional, more predictable, more familiar to them. Sometimes, you can win by making your opponent think they have won. He said that with such a strange expression and a wink, I'm getting the impression that what he is NOT saying is as important as the advice he gave me.

I mulled it over, and I don't like the idea of giving them the triumph of even jst thinking they are getting their way, but I will give it a shot nevertheless. And be it to prevent damage, lull them in a false sense of security again and - ironically - be less predictable concerning my true intentions in the end. I believe this is called "acting". They will not know what hit them.
And there goes another part of the story. Nuff said.  I know it's not much, but the next one's on the way as I write this^^
